A day before Pittsburghers dive into a smorgasbord of nachos and dip and park themselves on the couch to watch pro football’s big game, the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum at the Heinz History Center is challenging families to get active at the NFL Play 60 Training Camp, sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods, on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Parents and children of all ages will enjoy five floors of fun football-related activities, including:
- A mini-NFL Combine on the History Center’s fifth floor to test young visitors’ speed in the 40-yard dash, gauge their vertical leap, and practice their accuracy in passing a football;
- A special appearance by former Steelers offensive lineman and current radio personality Craig Wolfley from 12:30 – 2 p.m.;
- A touchdown dance contest where young visitors can show off their best moves;
- Chances to win exciting prizes throughout the day, including items signed by Steelers players LaMarr Woodley, Maurkice Pouncey, and Emmanuel Sanders;
- “Football 101” drills with pro football players from the Pittsburgh Power and local WPIAL athletes;
- Live cooking demonstrations by local chef Nicky D. Cooks, showcasing healthy recipes for football-watching parties, including mini Caprese Salad Bites, Grandma Rosie’s Italian Bread Pizza, and Game Day Pizzelles;
- Docent tours of the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum, special giveaways from Dick’s Sporting Goods, and much more.
The History Center event is presented in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Steelers and NFL Play 60, the National Football League’s health and fitness campaign to encourage young fans to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.
All NFL Play 60 Training Camp activities are included with regular History Center admission, which is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors age 62+, $6 for students and children ages 6-17, and free for children ages 5 and under, and free for History Center members. Advance registration is not required.”
