The city of Pittsburgh has begun work to repair the Panther Hollow Bridge in Schenley Park, Mayor Corey O’Connor and the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure announced.
Contractor Mosites Construction is currently installing a work platform beneath the span to contain debris during repairs. Full structural work is expected to begin within two weeks. The $2.23 million project is scheduled for completion in August 2026.
The bridge has been closed since October 2024 after a routine safety inspection identified corrosion on its steel trusses. A subsequent rope-access inspection and structural analysis confirmed the deficiencies, leading DOMI to develop a repair plan with bridge inspectors and design engineers. The planned repairs include truss retrofits, drainage system improvements and general maintenance. The bridge was last rehabilitated in 1999.
The existing vehicle detour will remain throughout construction. Pedestrian and bicycle access will be maintained across and under the bridge except when equipment and materials require temporary restrictions. The bridge is scheduled to reopen temporarily in July for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, followed by rolling closures through August.
