Pittsburgh police recovered seven firearms and made 12 arrests during a five-day enforcement operation on East Carson Street, marking a significant increase in weapons seizures compared to the previous week.
The South Side Entertainment Patrol conducted 10 traffic stops between July 2-6, resulting in seven traffic citations and seven vehicle tows. Officers also issued 26 non-traffic citations and five parking citations.
Arrests included charges for disorderly conduct, aggravated assault on law enforcement, carrying a firearm without a license and persons prohibited from possessing firearms. No firearms were recovered during the previous week’s patrol operations.
Most non-traffic citations involved alcohol and drug-related violations, including open container violations, public urination, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and marijuana possession or use in public areas.
The specialized patrol unit focuses on the East Carson Street corridor, which has seen an uptick in public interest this month. The entertainment district has been the subject of increased police attention in recent weeks due to chaotic clubgoers filling the streets at closing time between 12th and 16th streets on East Carson.
Police did not release specific details about individual arrests or provide information about the suspects involved.
