Pittsburgh police made nine arrests and issued 30 citations during weekend enforcement operations on East Carson Street, according to department statistics released Monday.
The South Side Entertainment Patrol conducted 17 traffic stops between June 25 and 29, resulting in four traffic citations and one vehicle towed. Officers also issued 26 non-traffic citations and one parking citation.
Most arrests involved alcohol- and drug-related violations, including open container violations, public urination, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, and marijuana possession or use in public areas.
No firearms were recovered during the five-day enforcement period.
The specialized patrol unit focuses on the East Carson Street corridor, a popular nightlife destination that draws large crowds on weekends. The entertainment district has been the subject of increased police attention in recent weeks due to public safety concerns.
District 3 Councilman Bob Charland posted on social media that he used police escorts to survey the business district, which falls within his council district. The post included a photo appearing to show Charland wearing a bulletproof vest during the patrol.
