The Allegheny County Medical Examiner has ruled that Michael Fuoco, 73, died from the toxic effects of cocaine. The manner of death was listed as an accident.

Fuoco was found inside a residence in the 200 block of Buchanan Place in Mt. Lebanon on April 10, 2025. The incident was reported at 6:23 p.m., and he was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Michael A. Fuoco was a longtime Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter and former president of the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh, which represents the paper’s journalists. He also taught journalism as an adjunct at the University of Pittsburgh and Point Park University. Fuoco resigned as union president and left the Post-Gazette in September 2020 after women accused him of sexual misconduct spanning decades; subsequent reporting by national and local outlets detailed those allegations.
