At the close of this holiday season, don’t send your tree to the landfill where it will take up valuable space. Instead, bring it to Construction Junction for a second use.

Construction Junction, along with its partners, Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) and the City of Pittsburgh, in cooperation with Emery Tree Service, will host a Christmas tree drop-off on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. During that time, individuals are welcome to drop off their real Christmas trees for $1 per tree. Emery Tree Service will recycle all of the trees to mulch.

Christmas trees must be free of ornaments and loose or tied with a string when dropped off. No trees in plastic bags will be accepted.

Construction Junction also needs help unloading trees from vehicles and directing traffic in the parking lot. Volunteers will stay warm with cups of hot cocoa and other refreshments courtesy of Whole Foods Market. All volunteers will receive a gift certificate from the East End Food Co-op. Call Mindy at Construction Junction, 412-243-5025, to volunteer.

Pennsylvania Resources Council hosts collections for “hard to recycle” materials frequently during the year. Call 412-488-7490 for dates and details about 2007 events.
